Message from Mr. Bazler:
Due to the significant increase in COVID cases, quarantine notifications, symptomatic students and absences, Washington Nile Schools will be learning virtually January 13-19. We will be back on a regular schedule beginning January 20th. Students should log in to their google classroom to retrieve assignments. All extracurricular activities will be suspended during this period to include both practices and contests. Buses will not perform home pick-ups but will continue to operate from the high school to the CTC and other off campus locations. Staff members should report as regularly scheduled.
Upon returning to in person instruction we will continue to require masking while indoors. Per Ohio Department of Health guidelines, by requiring masks in school, maintaining social distancing and following sanitation protocols, students will not have to quarantine due to a close contact unless they become symptomatic or test positive. In order for students to return and remain in school and to participate in extracurricular activities, we ask that our families follow recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Ohio Department of Health including avoiding large gatherings, maintaining social distancing and masking. Our goal is to keep students healthy as well as keep them in school. We will continue to monitor the COVID data for our district as well as information from our local health department and continue to make needed adjustments in our return plan. Again, thank you for your continued support. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Date: December 21, 2021
From: Kevin C Lloyd, Principal Portsmouth West Middle School/Andy Drake WLSD SRO
Subject: Afternoon/PM route for parents/guardians who pick-up students.
Due to congestion issues that we are experiencing with afternoon traffic, we are recommending the following changes for student pick-ups beginning on January 3rd, 2022. We are requesting parents/guardians who pick up their children up at the end of the day to follow the instructions described below.
Parents/guardians should use the Service Road (next to Shriners House) and drive around the rear of the building in order to pick up their students. Our pick-up point will still remain the same. (West side of the building) In other words, parents/guardians will use the same route in the afternoons as they do in the mornings.
We are hoping this allows our busses more room to navigate to arrive in the afternoons in order to pick students up. (Main road has traffic backed up)
Please remember not to block busses on the Service Road when our busses leave at approximately 2:28-2:30.
Thanks for your cooperation on this matter, and let’s have a great 2022!
Sincerely,
Kevin Lloyd, PWMS Principal
