Roger Scott Davis

  • Served on several school committees. 

  • MC of the Super Alumni banquet since its inception. 

  • Attended Wilmington College 

  • 1985 Graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science 

  • President of the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home. 

  • President of R. Scott Davis Mortuary Service. 

  • Vice President of LVD Properties 

  • Co-Owner of RWD Memorials/Flowers Monuments. 

  • Co-Founder and President of Portsmouth West Youth Basketball Association/The Complex 

  • Certified by the Academy of Funeral Service Professionals as a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner CFSP in 2005.

  • Member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge #769, 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Syrian Shrine.

  • Served on the board of the Elks County Club 

  • Served on the board of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association from 1987 to 1998. Became OFDA's youngest President in 1997. 

  • Served on the National Funeral Directors Association Policy Board from 1998-2001 

  • Served on the board at the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. 

  • Was appointed Co-Chief, Public Information Officer, and Logistics Chief of the Ohio Funeral Directors Mortuary Response team 1993. 

  • Served as a Mortuary Officer in the United States DMORT Team (Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team) from 1994 to 2012. 

  • Served on DMORT's DPMU Team (Disaster Portable Morgue Unit) from 2004 to 2012 

  • Deployed to New York on 911, Hurricane Katrina, Walker County, multiple plane crashes, and other disasters. 

  • Served on the board and coached for the Southern Ohio Magic AAU basketball Program. 

  • Coached West Portsmouth Wizards traveling basketball team. 

  • Was Awarded the Community Service Award in 2013 by Nauvoo Masonic Lodge 

  • Currently serve on the Scioto County Airport Authority board. 

  • Currently serve on the board of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association as a Past President. 

  • Currently serve on the Mastertrust committee of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association.

Ed Ingles

Ed Ingles

  • Washington-Nile School District would like to nominate Mr. Ed Ingles for WSAZ Home Town  Hero.  

  • Ed is a gifted woodworker that does so much for our school district without ever asking for any payment in return. Everything he does is all volunteer work. He is at the school almost every day working on many various projects for academics, fine arts department and athletics.

  • Some of the projects Ed has done for the school district:  

  • He has made the Riverday’s floats the last 13 years for our Miss West representatives.  High School girls/boys locker room, he has removed the old lockers and built new-style lockers.  Helped to build the boys' football locker room lockers for the players.  

  • Benches for the dugouts for the baseball and softball fields  

  • Award plaques to hang on the walls at our new athletic building.  

  • “West Senators” wooden sign that is placed over the trophy case in the high school  Academic award shelving for the high school.  

  • Helped build a stage so that we could have an outside graduation because of COVID.  Helps design and build the sets for our high school musicals.  

  • Ed is a very humble person he is always laughing and smiling and full of school spirit. Ed is a  very humble and true example of what a “Senator” is. 


Kelly Shy

Kelly Shy

  • Kelly is a 1974 graduate of Portsmouth West High School. He is recognized as the best, or one of the best basketball players in the history of the school. Kelly scored 1,484 points and had 1,068 rebounds while starting every game in his four-year career. His four-year statistics show an average of 20.1 points per game, 14.4  rebounds, 318 blocked shots, 143 steals, and a 60% field goal percentage.  

  • He was named the top sophomore in Ohio in 1972.  

  • Kelly once made 39 points and pull down 30 rebounds in a game that he only played three quarters. He was the first man in Portsmouth West history to win  MVP in scoring, rebounding or shooting percentage championships for three straight years and he won them all.  

  • He was selected as All-Soc for 3 years and was League Player of the Year in the 73- 74 season. He was also named to the All-County First Team his junior & senior years. Kelly was All-District First Team both his junior & senior years and was 3rd Team All-State his senior year. He also participated in Football (3 Letters),  Baseball (2 Letters) and Track (2 Letters).  

  • Kelly played in the Ohio All-Star Game, The Schoolboy Classic, and the Sharon  Hoyle Invitational Classic after his senior season.  

  • Kelly received an athletic scholarship to the University of Alabama where he played 4 years of SEC Basketball.
